As a young family looking to build a home, we realised how hyperinflated the property prices currently are. Many can no longer afford to buy, whilst others are indebting themselves far beyond their homes’ worth. As a result, few can afford to settle where their family roots are family generations are becoming disconnected.
As building professionals, we see how flawed planning policies, absence of proper design process and inferior quality of construction result in extremely poor built outcomes. The Australian dream seems to have become an expensive paper box.
Unable to find a community we would both like to and could afford to live in, we decided to share our effort, qualifications and years of experience in architecture, planning and sustainability, and build not just a home, but a hometown.
Well aware of the inevitable failure of utopian or regressive thinking, we don’t seek to escape reality, but merely to offer a sensible alternative to a lifetime of mortgage slavery, cultural deprivation and social alienation.
Drawing from both proven models and contemporary knowledge, Christdorf seeks to become a viable, vibrant, multi-generational community.
