We have all experienced trauma personally…the trauma of being born, of being ‘different, of being bullied or abused, of epigenetic racial oppression, of being in active combat, in politics, incarcerated in prison or elsewhere,…of being evicted from the Garden of Eden.
This trauma is reflected on a planetary scale by pollution, species extinction, climate change, social and geological upheaval. It shows up as war, drought, pandemic, famine, fires, floods, hurricanes and earthquakes.
We each have the power and responsibility to address this global crisis/trauma through the effects of our own inner work. This is the only way it will happen.
Be The Change You Want to See in the World! ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Already begun:
– Several cottage industries have been started and we have filed for non-profit status to begin fundraising.
– Outreach to the local Marquette area, offering education, healing classes, and social/political/racial mediation
– Vipassana meditation instruction – providing inner balance and common ground. Now offered as a free service within Marquette, it will eventually be practiced at an appropriate level by all staff and program participants in the community.
– Seeking our perfect site: 100+ acres of quiet, clean, beautiful wilderness land, 20-50 minutes from Marquette, with structures or potential building sites to accommodate 70 community members and areas that will allow sustainable agriculture.
– December 21st, 2021: FIRST ANNUAL SIT-A-THON FUNDRAISER! (Check our website for more information)
Beginning next year:
– Residential community will open, comprised of both staff and participants ~ with awareness that, in a very real sense we are all ‘participants’. This community will be initially funded by grants and donations as a mental health retreat and meditation center and within 3-4 years will become financially self-sufficient through onsite cottage industry and vocational training.
– All services will be available and accessible by self-determined need, regardless of prescription, insurance, or ability to pay. Mental health services include psychotherapy, nutritional therapy, meditation, massage, nature therapy, and more, and are available to all staff, community members, and program participants.
– Healthy, community-based and sustainably produced food will served in a common kitchen.
– Many resources will be shared by the community members. Our structure will be based somewhat on that of the Federation Of Egalitarian Communities, except that staff will be paid a reasonable wage to allow for personal needs and moving on, if desired.
– This will be a center for healing mind, body, society and environment. We will practice reasonably simple living strategies combined with lowered and sustainable energy consumption. We are an extension of the earth and all are sacred. All of our activities will reflect this.
Within 3 years:
– Vocational training and multiple cottage industries will provide financial sustainability through self-supporting cottage industry.
– We will offer meditation in the local jail and prison, as well as starting the Returning Citizen ‘transition to release’ program within the community.
Within 10 years:
– We will be encouraging research and education linked with several local colleges, to establish the efficacy and benefits of treating mental imbalance through natural means.
– We may consider incorporating a Job Corp of America site, providing education, structure and a service base of/for young adults and mentors
Ultimately:
This kind, happy and empowered lifestyle will generate the finances and public interest to allow the development of other Unity Projects in other locations.
