We are seeking co-founders.
We hope to form an authentic, durable community.
The community will be family-friendly, income-sharing, off-grid, and egalitarian.
We value connection with nature, curiosity, openness, and simplicity.
We are 2 adults and 2 children. In 2020 we purchased 60 wooded acres. The land is in a rural area, yet only about 40 minutes south of Richmond, VA.
What is happening now?
We have multiple non-permanent shelters. We grow food on hugelkultur berms. We spend most waking hours outside. We are off-grid. We harvest rain water, use solar electricity, and cook with propane. We choose to use hand tools instead of load motors. We read. We cook. We play music and board games. We ride bikes. We hike. We have camp fires. We find new plants and mushrooms. Some of us our children; all of us are constantly learning.
What will happen in the next few years?
We will grow more food. We are planning to build a common house using natural building techniques. The land has multiple springs and we plan to develop at least one. Other infrastructure dreams include ponds and a dug-out greenhouse. We have our ideas for legal structures and governance, but it is important to us that we collaborate with our future co-founders on these systems, so details are open and flexible. The land will be held in common by all community members as soon as is feasible.
We are looking for the right people to share this project. We have a lot of passion but we don’t have all the answers. We are excited to connect with our future co-founders and develop a vision together.
